5 BRAHMS, THE COMMUNITY, WITHIN.

November 12th, 2002

Man dies from gunshot wound on 2nd floor

Crime, Death
Kevin Dwayne Bennett, 21, was shot just outside the building. Police found him unresponsive in a second floor apartment.
These are the kind of information that appears as primary profile on 5 Brahms Avenue and other government housing zones.

5 BRAHMS is located at Don Mills and Finch, this is an area filled with condominiums and houses with Brahms being the only rent geared to income housing also known in the media as the a ghetto.

The whole neighbourhood itself including 5 Brahms is quite beautiful and peaceful. I have lived here for 4 years and I have not heard a single gunshot. Our nights are beautiful with the occasional disturbance of motor vehicles.

There are daycare centres conviniently in the building and around the neighbourhoods as well as school and churches. Though the there are many Muslims dwelling in Brahms, there isn't a mosque near by.

We are surrounded by the basic necessities of a community; doctors office, No-frills, banks, drug marts, parks, schools, libraries d our greatest attractions Fairview Mall and Seneca College (Newnham Campus).

Even though 5 Brahms has had a bad name in the past, people must understand that this area is filled with travellers from all ethnic backgrounds. These individuals has their own dreams and aspiration and must not fall victim to the labeling of a neighbourhood, for things in which they did not help commit. Meet Jamal.

He comes from the gold coast of Africa, Ghana, he is a soccer player who is working hard to claim his name in the field of soccer. He has five children, he is in his second year to become a Social Service Worker and he is involved with a lot of community programs that foster safe and health development for children in high risk neighbourhoods.

He is a loving father and husband, his identity should be a reflection of his hands work not off of others, or media stereotypes.

THANK YOU..FROM THE PEOPLE IN 5 BRAHMS.
